High Flying Into the Future

Activity level: 🌶️

Modes of transportation: 🛫

A flight so long, we jump to the future!

We got past security and headed straight for the lounge, where we got a celebratory beer and a few small snacks before walking over to our flight.

The line was longer than expected, but we finally got to our seats and enjoyed the complimentary champagne. Eric was trying to put his bag in the overhead when he backed into the flight attendant, knocking her tray of champagne onto the bare feet of the woman behind Sarah. Luckily, the woman wasn’t too worried, so the flight attendants gave her some napkins and it was all good.

The seats were fantastic, and they informed us that they would be serving dinner service right after takeoff. We both chose the beef short rib with vegetables, and Sarah proceeded to fall asleep immediately. Eric had to wake her up multiple times to make sure she avoided jet lag, but finally the food came and it got a lot easier to stay awake.

Sarah was way too excited about the free socks, toothbrush, and earplugs.

Dinner came with pretzel rolls and garlic bread, and was fairly delicious. Eric got red lentil soup as a starter, and Sarah got various croutes like smoked salmon on a cracker and prosciutto and melon. We started watching the new Little Mermaid, but it was terrible, and we never finished it.

After dinner, the flight attendants made up the beds, and Sarah got the “nighttime ritual” off the menu, which was tea and a balm to rub on her temples. Sarah wasn’t sure if it was the nice aroma of the balm, or the gentle shaking of the plane, but she fell right to sleep.

Getting cozy.
“Shall I make your bed” and then one magically appeared.

When we woke up, we realized we’d slept for 30 hours! Just kidding, but we did lose an entire day due to time changes (RIP Wednesday, 9/27).

We proceeded to watch maybe the worst movie we’ve seen in a while: Hypnotic featuring Ben Affleck. As someone said on the internet, it was a thriller straight out of 2006 (but released in 2023). During the movie, they served breakfast: a bacon, jam, egg; and cheese bagel sandwich for Eric, and pancakes for Sarah. The bagel was fantastic, but the pancakes were maybe a little too sweet. Either way, we both enjoyed it immensely.

Food photo dump coming (hopefully we figure out how to stitch photos soon!):

We landed pretty shortly after that, so we had to say goodbye to the plane. On to New Zealand!

What an incredible experience. So did you decide to sit side by side or across from each other?
