Activity level: 🌶️🌶️
Modes of transportation: 👟🚗🛫
Are we counting this as part of our trip? Well, we started eating like we’re on vacation, so we think so.
We started the trip in a truly adventurous way: by walking, from LAX, with our backpacks, with cat in tow, along the highways and ramps to In-N-Out. Sarah didn’t even know walking in Los Angeles was legal and Einstein wasn’t too happy, but we made it to our destination without mishap.
After ordering our food, Eric took Einstein on a nice walk, which drew odd looks from all of the normal people hanging around. Luckily, no small children tried to pet him because he was feeling feisty.
The burgers, as always, were delicious. We got picked up in the Prata van for our hours-long trip home, where we packed in with our bags (10 total people plus bags).
We had a nice dinner of chicken tacos and quickly fell asleep.
The next day, we had to go to Urgent Care because Sarah started to feel ill—right in time for our long flight. We were discharged with some antibiotics and made our way to buy a few sets of clothes and small things for the trip. Along the way, we got a few more tacos (including a sick “keto” taco with fried cheese as the shell).
We also picked up some pheromone collars for Einstein since he was stressed at the Prata house, and he seemed to really enjoy it.
Anyway, we ended up pushing our departure time a little too far, and weren’t able to check in for our (business class) flight. We frantically tried to call to make sure they wouldn’t cancel our booking, and the people on the phone definitely made it worse and stressed us (and Christine) out. They were saying it would cost $3k in taxes to put us on the next flight (more than we paid for all the flights of this trip, combined).
By the time we got to the airport, it was all good. We had to quickly buy a flight out of New Zealand and apply for an e-visa before they would let us on the flight, but we got it sorted out and finally got checked in. We booked an outgoing flight to Melbourne because we had 5 minutes to make a decision and it was cheapest (and the warmest). Any recommendations for the area would be appreciated!
The only hiccup was that Air New Zealand doesn’t participate in TSA Pre, so Eric had to unpack his entire bag to pull out his laptop, so that sucked. The drug sniffing dog also sniffed his butt so he had to go back through the line. But overall, it worked out.
Ah, that’s enough about the airport. We’ll leave the flight to the next post! See y’all in a few.
