Phuket, We’re Going to the Beach!

Activity level: 🌶️

Modes of transportation: 👟

Waking up to a perfect day was like snow on Christmas.

Beach day! Round 2. We woke up to great weather, so Sarah leapt out of bed. A little background: during all the stress of wedding planning, the main thing getting Sarah through was envisioning being on a nice warm beach on the honeymoon. New Zealand and Australia turned out to be unexpectedly cold, and there were no beaches in Singapore and Bangkok, so things were looking bleak when we arrived at Phuket. The weather forecast was thunderstorms for a week, but we lucked out. It took Eric 30 minutes to put on sunscreen, and we walked down to the beach.

On Surin beach where we were, every shack and restaurant on the beach had umbrellas and chairs that we could rent for 100 baht or so. We walked all the way up and down, and eventually settled on a spot under some trees and paid the attendant—then ordered a coconut to drink. It got a little overcast, so we took a nice nap on the beach.

We got our coconut.

After that, we switched spots and got more food and drinks at the restaurant at the beach spot near our hotel. That food was excellent, and we pretty much just watched the sunset from the beach and relaxed.

Sadly, we learned that our Texas friend got the dates wrong and he was boxing that night—and we couldn’t get to the island in time. We were a little disappointed, but at least we saw a video of it, and it looked hilarious.

Full day on the beach and Sarah couldn’t be happier.

The wind started picking up towards the end of the sunset so we decided to head back to the hotel. We then remembered there was a rooftop pool and wanted to check it out. No one else was there and we had a nice swim with an incredible fire sunset.

Most beautiful sunset of the trip 🥇

At night, we went back to the hotel to relax and work on the blog more. Sarah wasn’t feeling well, so Eric made the trip out of the hotel to get some dinner. He chose a kebab place, since it’s Sarah’s favorite—but it turned out terribly. It was well rated, but the food wasn’t great. We ended up eating some of the chicken (the gyro was interesting) and the salad. Honestly, we were already pretty full from the day of beach food, so we didn’t miss it too much. It’s probably good to lighten up on the food anyway.
