We decided to try out a different beach today, so we got a ride from the hotel over to Kamala beach, which is sort of next door. We also couldn’t break up our big bills, so we had to give an IOU to our cab driver. He was nice!
Kamala beach was much more built up and a little cleaner, with resorts and many more shops. It was nice, but the beach chairs were double the price of Surin beach, so we opted to just sit on the sand with towels. Sarah was smart enough to bring some large Singha beers we had bought days earlier, and after Eric spent 10 minutes trying to open them (his frat brothers would be ashamed), they enjoyed them on the beach. Sarah ended up buying some sunglasses and a hat since it was bright, and she even negotiated them down to 300 baht!
When the cab driver dropped us off, we realized that we were right next to where the bus let us out the other night—we should have just gone to the beach!

We enjoyed relaxing for a bit, then headed over to a restaurant for some food. Someone was smoking right next to us, so we went next door instead—and it turned out to be a great choice. We decided to go wild on the seafood, so we got oysters, shrimp, and a grilled fish again, which were all amazing. We also got some crab meat in yellow curry, which we both enjoyed. The waiter suggested Sarah get a lychee martini, so we both got one, and they were just what we needed on a hot day.

After that, we headed back out to the beach for a little to chill out and swim.

Eric also decided to get a massage at a stand by the beach for 400 baht. He asked what a “sport” massage was, and the masseuse said “Hard. Work the muscles”, so he said “ok let’s do that.” And then she sort of laughed and told all her coworkers “sport” and they laughed too. Eric was wondering if he had made a huge mistake. It wasn’t a mistake… mostly. But as of the time of this writing, his shoulder blades are still sore and he thinks he has a bruise on his foot.

We watched the sunset, then decided to get food again since we knew we wouldn’t leave the room once we got back. So we grabbed a light meal of chicken satay, pad Thai, and beef panang before heading to the hotel.

We had one more thing to do: book our flight to Da Nang, Vietnam for Sunday. So we booked that and then went to sleep so we could make the ferry in the morning to Phi Phi Island. That ended up being an adventure… but that’ll have to wait for tomorrow.
